These are just some of the headlines in the news today. Do you remember the headlines from a year ago? No doubt you do not.

Not one of these banners is transcendent. As troubling or joyful as they may be—all are transient. There is but one thing that is transcendent and lasting; the sovereign will of God. God’s decrees have been established in eternity past. God’s proclamations have ultimate sway over all realms, presidents, kings, and even over tyrannical despots.

The testimony and evidence of God’s sovereignty rests in the historical Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is denied by a-theists and anti-theists, by cultists and false religionists. It is Satan’s prime target. Indeed, without the truth of the resurrection Christianity fails.

There is no shortage of slapdash “intellectual” naysayers to the biblical truth of Christ’s Resurrection. Some years ago it was those in the Jesus Seminar, today many are in the fashionable Emergent Church movement. They are at their core universalists and pluralists, viz. the threadbare “everybody’s going and all religions lead to heaven” syndrome.

Exemplars are statements like this:

For too many people the name Jesus has become a symbol of exclusion, as if Jesus statement “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me” actually means, ” am in the way of people seeking truth and life. I won’t let anyone get to God unless he comes through me.”               Brian Mclaren

It is possible for someone who does not know [trust in] Jesus to be saved.            Dallas Willard

What I think I can say is, . . . I’m not so sure that when this life is over that all possibilities for salvation are over. Tony Campolo

I remember even Pope John Paul posited pluralism by stating all religions lead to heaven. I don’t believe he made it ex cathedra [i], but in our emotion over reason era just that fact “The Pope” said it means it would carry about the same weight.

If these men, and others like them, are right then there was not only no need for the resurrection, there is no need for the Bible, because it is all lies, and there is no sin. Indeed, Christianity is a self-defeating hypothesis. It then follows that there is no truth and the false religions of the world, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, are still false.

But wait if there is no sin, there is no hell and if no hell no need for a heaven. Therefore the Bible is a lie and I guess Darwin was right and pity us poor dumb Christians.

Or maybe some of these non-thinking bots should learn how to read their Bibles or at least pick them up an read what the text says—not what they want it to say! It really seems to be the case that these men do not even know the Risen Christ.

Saint Paul already addressed this in his letter to the Corinthian Church:

Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.[ii]

In the second letter to Corinth Paul said this:

. . . not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel . . . [iii] (italics mine).

R. A. Torrey, who affirmed Paul in a more colloquial manner, stated, “when Satan gets into the pulpit, or the theological chair, and pretends to teach Christianity, when in reality he is corrupting it….then look out for him; he is at his most dangerous work” (italics mine).

Yes the truth of the Resurrection, of all God’s Word, is found in His Simplicity, Actuality, Infinitude, and Sovereign Will, not in the clouded minds of little men striving to displace the God of the Universe. They cannot breach the infinite power demonstrated in the Word and His Resurrection. Make no mistake, Christ rose in his physical body, not just as a spirit, or some vaporous phantasm.

Our Christ is not a dead man infilling a hole in the ground as is every other founder of a false religion. My Jesus is alive—I trust in Him alone for my salvation. Because He rose from the grave, so too will I rise. Because Jesus lives eternally, so too will I. It will be a glorious life of an unimaginable eternity living in worship with Him.

Put your trust in Jesus Christ and this can be your salvation too.

. . . I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory! [iv]

[i] Ex cathedra, literally “from the chair” it means the Pope is speaking with the infallibility of God.

[ii] 1 Corinthians 15: 12-19, NASB.

[iii] 2 Corinthians 2: 2-4, NASB.
